If the Voice Announce does not work...

then first make sure eJukebox is shutdown and then download and install the attached file.

...then DOWNLOAD THIS if you need to install the default (Mary, Mike, Sam, Robot) Microsoft voices:

...VISIT HERE to download Microsoft regional voices

...VISIT HERE for high quality Infovox voices. The voice downloads are huge (60-150MB) but they sound great! The only thing is their voices will stop working after 30 days unless you pay for them.

Attachment: spchapi.exe (827.24kb)
This file has been downloaded 676 times

Ran across a program called TextAloud today and discovered that after installing their 5mb demo... eJukebox's song announce works and the text-to-speech voice quality is now better than the standard microsoft voice.

Simply installing their free demo from TextAloud's site may be the easiest way to get voice announce working nicely in eJukebox without having to mess with microsoft downloads.

I use TextAloud too (registered version), however Audiosoft does not appear to use the computers default voice set in XP Control Panel :(

I purchased a UK English version of the TTS voice and set this to be default in Windows, however Audiosoft appears to continue to use the voice which comes with the SAPI4 engine

Please could Audiosoft be configured to use the computers default voice? :o

XP Speech Engine

If you are using XP, speech will not work until you install a text to speech engine as this is not installed as part of XP. It works for me after I installed the engine. You can get the necessary text to speech engine at: http://www.microsoft.com/msagent/downloads/user.asp#sr go down to the middle of the page and use the pulldown to select the US English version.

A comment to the ejukebox developers. This works fine except that this is like a "bad DJ" as it talks over the first part of the songs music, and unless the start of the music is a very low volume, it can not be heard well. Why don't you fix this so that the song name is announced before the song starts to play?

I have updated the code for next version of eJukebox (after v3.991) to make is possible to change the voice and speak speed from inside eJukebox. Any SAPI4 voice installed should work and show up in the drop down box.

Audiosoft has attached this image:

If you want to try out the new voice selection ability ahead of the next release I have attached an updated ejukebox.exe

Note: Beta download removed as a new version has been released. Check out the Latest Beta Download section of the forums for the newest beta.

As Alan said here, if the song announce is enabled could it delay the song start until the song announce has finished ? This way the start of the song doesn't mask the song announce.Hopefully this should be simple. We ask for this because the song announce is a LOT softer than the song playing so you either can't hear it at all, or it's very, very difficult to hear.On a side note if you have the band "AC/DC" in your artist list, and you have it in the orientation above, the speech doesn't recognise this as a word at all. When it says the band name it pronounces it " (h)ack(without the h to get the sound right) slash d c", it sounds really funny, to get around this you have to re-name the band " A C D C" to get the song announce to say it right" but this means changing all the songs by this artist.

A big P.S to Audiosoft, I have filled out the form for a new code 2 weeks ago and still not received my new code :( , I hope it didn't get lost anywhere, or my email didn't get rid of it thinking it was spam.I also put in a comment in the form asking which version of EJ I had bought. If you could sort this out it would be great.
Many thanks.

I have updated it so it starts speaking as early as possible...but the song still has to start playing first.

The best way to fix the problem is to make the announcers voice louder than the music:
To do that you just need to raise the windows volume (which controls the volume of the voice) and lower the eJukebox/Winamp volume to a comfortable level.

If that doesn't work you need to first go into Winamp and set it to use the DirectSound output plugin.

Montana,

I remember getting your form request asking about what version of eJukebox you had. I sent the reply with your new code so check your spam filter. If you can't find it just fill out the form again with your app id# cause I deleted your request after I replied so no longer have your info. Then I will send you a U2U today/tomorrow in the forum to make sure you get the new code.

Also AC/DC sounds right if you rename the artist to AC-DC. But you will not need to do that with the next version because I have just updated the code to replace / or \ with a space when spoken.

Wow Audiosoft those voces are pretty good and definately much better than the Microsoft ones. I have never used song announce because they were so bad. However, I have a small request. I have my artists named like "Beach Boys, The" instead of "The Beach Boys" so that I don't end up with a bunch of artists in the T category. This creates a problem with text to speech since it reads the artist name just as it is displayed. Is there any way you can make it read the word "The" in front of the artist/band's name? That would be awsome! :)

"Is there any way you can make it read the word "The" in front of the artist/band's name? That would be awsome!"

I totally agree with you rllercstr7,

I think the best would be if we could keep all artists named normally: The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones... and if eJukebox could simply ignore the word "The" in the artistlist (but not in the vocal announce!), so the alphabetical order would be perfectly respected! :)
Additionally I also would like eJukebox ignore the French words "Le", "La" and "Les".

My last request: (but it's certainly impossible, well not yet!)
If the voice could speak French when it announces a French song... because the English voice makes French titles incomprehensibles! And vice versa, if I use a French voice it makes English so bad...
In fact I would like a POLYGLOT voice !! :D

Thanks. ;)

I've just tried this new version of eJukebox and it does exactly what it sais on the tin! (although I'm glad I read your following notes about relative volume levels).

I have selected my high quality UK AT&T voice - 'Audrey' which works brilliantly, although she sounds a bit snobbish and think she should get out more :P

I just discovered a set of AT&T voices that sound awsome! The acapela ones don't hold a candle to these if you can get them. There is a demo at http://www.naturalvoices.att.com/demos/

is there anyway to get rid of the "now playing" part of the song announce? it gets annoying and will help in shorting the announce so as not to take up more of the song then needed.

thanks.

i have numerous voices installed and the microsoft api per your links above and have winamp set to direct sound output, but still nothing.

any ideas anybody?

The current best text to speech software is Text Speaker. It has customizable pronunciation, reads anything on your screen, and it even has talking reminders. The bundled voices are well priced and sound very human.
